What You Need to Know Before Starting
Motion graphics isn't about memorizing tools or following templates. It's about developing a mindset that connects design principles with purposeful animation, where every movement serves a reason and communicates a specific idea.

Who This Program Is For
This isn't a beginner-friendly intro that avoids complexity. We expect you to already understand basic design concepts and be comfortable learning technical workflows independently when needed.
- You have worked with visual design software before, whether it's Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar tools
- You understand composition, color theory, and typography at least on a practical level
- You're willing to spend time practicing outside of lecture hours, because real skill comes from repetition
- You can troubleshoot technical issues on your own when software doesn't behave as expected
- You have access to a computer capable of running motion graphics software without constant crashes
What Success Looks Like After Six Months
Most students who complete this program can produce smooth, intentional animations that communicate clearly and look professional. They understand timing curves, anticipate viewer attention, and build compositions that guide the eye without confusion. That doesn't mean they're experts yet, but they have a solid foundation to keep building on.
Time Commitment
Each module takes between six and ten hours to complete, depending on how quickly you work and how much you already know. Some weeks will feel easier than others. When you hit keyframe animation and easing principles, expect to slow down significantly because those concepts take time to internalize.
Weekly Structure
Lectures are released on Mondays and remain accessible indefinitely. You can watch them at your own pace, but assignments have deadlines two weeks after release. This gives you flexibility without letting things drift indefinitely.
Software Requirements
We teach using Adobe After Effects because it's the industry standard and offers the most comprehensive toolset for motion design. You'll need a subscription, which costs around $23 per month for individuals. There are free alternatives like Blender, but our curriculum is built specifically around After Effects workflows.
Hardware Considerations
A laptop from the last four years with at least 16GB of RAM should handle most projects without major issues. Rendering will take longer on older machines, but it won't prevent you from learning. If your computer struggles, you can adjust preview settings and work at lower resolutions during the editing phase.
